Joseph E. SWOPE, 84 formerly of 793 Farrandsville Road, Lock Haven, died July 22, 2005 at SusqueView Home Inc.
Born Jan. 8, 1921 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Edward and Mary WENKER SWOPE.
Mr. SWOPE was a graduate of Lock Haven High School and a member of the First Church of Christ in Lock Haven.
He was a member of the Foster Parents Association, and had 33 foster children. He also owned and operated a saw mill.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanne YEARIK SWOPE; three sons, Jerry J. SWOPE of Lancaster, David SWOPE of Farrandsville and Nathaniel SWOPE of Ohio; three daughters, Sharon E. YOUNGBLOOD of Mackeyville, Beverly E. ANDERSON of Sayre and Kimberly WATKINS of Avis; a brother, Alfred SWOPE of Atlanta, GA; a sister Polly DAVENPORT, of Lock Haven; foster children, Gordon MINCER and Brenda GUNLACH and 18 grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn ERTWINE SWOPE, who died in 1997.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, 231 High St., Flemington, with Rev. Troy BORST officiating. Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Swissdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lock Haven First Church of Christ.
