Preacher of the German Ridge Methodist Church. William and his brother John Jacob, enlisted in the Third Rdgiment of the Wisconsin Volunter infanty. I was a surprise that he enlisted in the Civil War, since he was about 35 years old and had three children. On his enlistment papers, William is described as being five feet, six inches tall, with gray eyes, sandy hair and a light complextion. William moved to Indiana about April 1878. The reason William moved to Indiana we do not know, however being a "lay preacher", he may have felt a religious calling. He and his wife lived out their lives in Rome, Indiana and were buried in Conner Cemetery.

Wilhelmia Tillman and William Samuel married 1855 in Wisconson
