Skinner played for teams in the National Hockey League (NHL), Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA), American Hockey Association (AHA), and the Canada Pro Hockey League (CPHL). He played for the Toronto Arenas from 1917 to 1919, Vancouver Millionaires from 1920 to 1922, Vancouver Maroons from 1922 to 1924, Boston Bruins from 1924 to 1925, Montreal Maroons from 1924 to 1925, Pittsburgh Pirates from 1925 to 1926, Duluth Hornets from 1926 to 1927, Kitchener Millionaires 1927 to 1928, and the Kitchener Flying Dutchmen from 1928 to 1929.
