He was born Frederick Karl Pruetzel to a German Lutheran immigrant father and a Puerto Rican Catholic mother who became a popular comic and television actor of the 1970s, and gained nationwide fame while playing the role of 'Chico Rodriquez' on the television situation comedy "Chico and the Man" (1974 to 1978) opposite actor Jack Albertson. Father of actor Freddie Prinze Jr. Prinze is buried in the same cemetery as his television costar Scatman Crothers, who played Louie on Chico and the Man.
