Blen Flowers was a son of James Hampton Flowers and Lucy Wansley Flowers of Gaston Co., NC. He was married to Ruth Bradshaw, a daughter of Avery Albert Bradshaw and Mamie Beheeler Bradshaw of Gaston Co., NC. Blen and Ruth were the parents of four children:
1. Kandy Anita Flowers b. 11/3/1946 d. 6/28/1996 (m. Candler Bumgarner);
2. Cynthia Daphene Flowers b. 9/19/1953 (m. Patrick Radigan, Charlotte);
3. Jeffrey Blen Flowers b. (m. Gina), Cramerton, NC; and
4. Johnny Albert Flowers b. (m. Vivian), Charlotte, NC.
Blen was survived by his wife, the above children and also by 6 grandchildren.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1941 - 1945, survivor of the Battle of Midway on the U.S.S. Yorktown, received several medals, including the Purple Heart. He was a graduate of Evans Business College and UNC Chapel Hill. He was a registered representative and stock broker since 1958, was President of Carolina Underwriters, Incorporated, and retired as Director of Insurance and Claims with Akers Motor Lines. He was a member of Ranlo Baptist Church, a member of Gastonia Moose Lodge and VFW Post 9337.
