Blen was survived by his wife, the above children and also by 6 grandchildren.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1941 - 1945, survivor of the Battle of Midway on the U.S.S. Yorktown, received several medals, including the Purple Heart. He was a graduate of Evans Business College and UNC Chapel Hill. He was a registered representative and stock broker since 1958, was President of Carolina Underwriters, Incorporated, and retired as Director of Insurance and Claims with Akers Motor Lines. He was a member of Ranlo Baptist Church, a member of Gastonia Moose Lodge and VFW Post 9337.
