Doyle L. Keith, 89, died at 6:49 a.m. Dec. 3, 2008, at his daughter's residence.

He was born Sept. 2, 1919, in Auglaize County to William Victor and Gladys Marie Zimmerman Keith, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 2, 1940, he married Lucinda Theresa Duling, who died Oct. 27, 1986.

Mr. Keith owned and operated Keith's Sunoco Service on Market and Metcalf streets for more than 30 years. Following his retirement he owned and operated Keith's Automotive Service until 1992. He had also retired as a chief petty officer from the Navy, where he had served in World War II.

He had been a member of First Church of God. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, where he had served as commander and served 12 years as a trustee. He had also served as commander of VFW District 2, where he was currently a trustee. He was a life member of MOC Pup Tent 6, where he served as a seam squirrel. He was a member of Navy Club Ship 9, where he served as commander for nine years, and a member of American Legion Post 133, Cairo, where he served as commander for 10 years. He was also a member of American Legion Post 96 and AMVETS.

He was a member of Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 199 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370. He was a life member of Fraternal Order of Orioles Nest 173.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Theresa (Shannon) Kies, of Lima; two grandchildren, Shannon D. (Michelle) Kies and Jeffrey Dru Kies; three great-grandchildren, Justin Michael, Shane Alexander and Jori Rayne; and close friend, Patricia "Pat" Miller, of Lima.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Doyle Keith; a daughter, Gladys Diana Keith; two brothers, Otto Wayne and William Victor Keith Jr.; and three sisters, Orcela Irene Scott, Eva Mae LaRue and Leatrice Faye Nichols.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. Father David Ross will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where a VFW service will be held at 4 p.m. and a Navy service at 5 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose Catholic Church, St. John Catholic Church, Lima Central Catholic High School or VFW Post 1275.
