|Grant died Jan. 25 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence after a relative brought the child, suffering from severe burns and unresponsive, to the emergency room.|
Initial autopsy findings indicate Ty’Lashia suffered second- and third-degree burns to two different areas of her body. Florence County Coroner M.G. “Bubba” Matthews said the child also suffered head injuries and other signs of abuse.
“We can confirm that DSS had prior involvement. The state office will be doing a thorough review and assessment of what happened in accordance with our child death protocol. We will review all records and will interview all of the DSS staff involved. Policy staff will analyze our staff’s actions and decisions to determine whether good practice and whether policies and procedures were followed.”
