Esther Johnson Cobb, 92 years old, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. Born in Lydia Mill, SC, Esther was the daughter of William Ernest and Docia Abercrombie Johnson.
In addition to her husband, Jimmie, she was preceded in death by brothers, Eugene, Carl, Steven, and Richard Johnson and sisters, Mary and Dorothy Johnson and Margaret Sharpton. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Barry Sullivan. Esther loved being a Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.
She loved crafts of all kinds, and most of her family, friends and acquaintances were recipients of her bookmarks, cards and other gifts of love. She enjoyed decorating her home for all seasons, especially Christmas. Even more, she enjoyed sharing her decorated home with others. Esther also enjoyed spending time and taking trips with her many friends and shopping at Dillard's.
Esther was a faithful member of Purcell United Methodist Church for 64 years and served as a Kindergarten teacher, Pastor Parish Relations Committee member, and many other positions. She also photographed and videoed events for many years and decorated the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall. She was given the Laity Service Award for her dedicated service.
Esther is survived by her children: Eddie (Cynthia) of Mount Holly; Bobby (Debbie) of Charlotte; Dianne Sullivan of Gastonia; Ronnie (Dawn) of Hermitage, TN. Grandchildren: Shannon Carter (Brian), J.T. Cobb, B.J. Sullivan (Lisa), Tia Hill (Clint), Abigail Sullivan and Camille Cobb. Great-Grandchildren: Maddie Carter, Wyatt Carter, Ava Jo Sullivan, Judah Sullivan, Lily Hill and Jackie Hill. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Durham Memorial Baptist Church, 1601 Toddville Rd, Charlotte, NC 28214.
There will be no formal visitation before or after the service. The family would appreciate your phone calls and cards to share memories of Esther and condolences to individual family members in a more meaningful way in the days and weeks ahead.
