"Ellie" Shay

Eleanor "Ellie" Lavern Simmons Shay age 75, passed away Wednesday evening February 1st, 2006 from complications of pneumonia, and severe dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Resided in Sevier County for the last 3 years. Born in Springville, Utah January 30, 1931 to Darwin Simmons and Vada Thornton, who later divorced, Vada remarried Erton Ray Davis. Eleanor "Ellie" Simmons married Douglas J. Shay, February 16, 1951, later divorced December 8th, 1983.

Eleanor Simmons graduated at East High School, in SLC, in 1948. She worked as Postal Worker in the Salt Lake Region for 28 years in customer relations and lost mail departments, later retired from USPS and continued working as a counselor at the YWCA and later provided child care for the children at the YWCA and at the Battered Women's Shelter in Salt Lake, she also continued afterwards working as a crossing guard at nearby schools where she resided in North Salt Lake. Ellie enjoyed vacationing across the United Sates, thoroughly enjoyed working with children after her retirement. She also enjoyed dining out with her children every weekend while she was able to still get out, as well as going to the movies every week with her best friend Joyce Durrant.

She is survived by her children, Dawna Marie Shay (Iorg), William "Bill" Douglas Shay, Raymond "Scott" Shay; 8 Grandchildren (Shelley, Ryan, Dustin, Dallas, Shaun, Jason, Kristofer, Kodee) and 1 great-grandchild (Sebastian); siblings, Buddy Davis, Earl Davis, June (Davis) Shuster, Bobby (Davis) Sheehan (deceased), also survived by Aunt Fontella Winter, Uncle Wayne Thornton, Aunt Wanda Erspamer. She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters deceased shortly after birth (Donna & one not given a name).

We will all miss her dearly, and know now that she is in a much better place in heaven, We Love you Mom.

Friends and family may call one hour prior to services. Graveside services will be Wednesday, February 8, 2006, 2:00 p.m. at Lake Hills Memorial Park, 10055 S. State Street, Sandy, Utah.
