Kathy G. Smith
1943 ~ 2011
Kathryn Griff Smith of Pleasant Grove passed away December 29, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with ALS with her husband by her side. As a family we cherished every moment with her even when things became very challenging. We are thankful that she has been released from her earthly challenges but we will miss her dearly. Born June 1, 1943 in Kemmerer, Wyoming to Paul Louis Griff and Marion Young. She attended Kemmerer schools and after graduation moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where she attended University of Utah and Henager Business College and later she met her husband Paul J Smith and they were married August 12, 1966. They were later sealed, April 26, 1980 in the Provo Temple.
Kathy was a proud mother of a son Shaun and a daughter Stacy. She was a wonderful mother. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many callings including Young Woman's President and Relief Society President and loved to go to the temple. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Bishops Storehouse.
For a number of years she worked as an office manager for two dentists. She was a warm and friendly person and enjoyed her association with the patients, many who became good friends. She was a talented and creative cook and following a family tradition from mother and grandmother no one ever left the table hungry. She was an accomplished quilter.
Perhaps her greatest gift was that she was a compassionate caregiver spending many hours caring for her mother, aunt, and grandparents when they needed her. This care extended to her husband, children, and grandchildren. To her family was everything.
We rarely saw her angry or heard a negative comment. She was slow to anger and quick to forgive.
She is survived by her husband Paul, son Shaun, and Marzina and Reilly. Her daughter Stacy and Jayme Anderson. Grandsons Cade and Jory and Grandaughter Bradie. She is also survived by her brothers Jim and Dan and Sister Paula, many good friends including Mary Lou Fryer who she met when she moved to Pleasant Grove in 1966. They have been like sisters for over 40 years. Thank you Mary Lou. Thank you to all our friends and neighbors and a special thanks to Chris and Linda from Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Timpanogos Third Ward Chapel, 425 East 500 North, Pleasant Grove. Family and friends may attend a viewing Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove
