William Thomas Champ was born in England. His birth was registered March 1884 in Abingdon, England. He was baptized Jan. 20, 1884 in Stadhampton, England. William immigrated to America with his parents and sister Ellen in 1885. They had left England May 30, 1885 on the ship known as the "British Empire" and arrived in New York two weeks later on June 13, 1885.

William married Louise A. Pflanz on January 10, 1906 in Utica, Oneida Co., NY. At the time of his marriage, William was employed as an electrician at the Remington Typewriter Works. William and Louise lived in Ilion, NY and Utica, NY for a short time, and later moved to Sherburne, Chenango Co., NY in 1908 where they resided the rest of their lives. William became manager of the village utilities department and served in this capacity for many years. He was Fire Chief for more than a quarter of a century. He retired in 1953. The couple took an active part in community life in the village during this time.

William and Louise were honored on their golden wedding anniversary on Jan. 10, 1956 at a dinner party at the Oxford Inn given by their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Champ of Endicott.
