She was born Frieda Ricka Mathilda Goetz, March 27, 1918 near Eldora, IA in Hardin County to William and Anna Barz Goetz. She married Ralph E. Ansley December 18, 1945 in Eldora, IA. She graduated from Eldora High School in 1938. She then attended Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls receiving a Normal teaching degree and taught in one of the old one room country schools until her marriage. Afterwards she took on the role of a homemaker and mother.
When her daughter, Donna Jean, was found to have mental retardation and cerebral palsy, Frieda, along with other parents, became founders of the Wapello County Association for the Retarded which today is TENCO. She served in many positions such as President, Vice President, Treasurer and teacher along with fundraisers and lots of volunteer time given to helping with association along with her family. She was a member of First Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her son, Bill(Kim)Ansley of Ottumwa; one granddaughter, Beth of Portland, OR.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph in July of 1997 and a daughter, Donna Jean in October of 1966; her parents and brother, Carl Goetz.
Funeral srvices will be 1 pm Tuesday at Reece Funeral home in Ottumwa with Rev. Ralph Kister officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 11 am Monday at the funeral home with the family present from 5-7 pm Monday. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottumwa.
