Janice was loved by all she knew. Words fail to express the talents, caring personality and qualities that she possessed.
She was born to George W. and Dorthy Miller Herrod on November 25, 1931 in Salt Lake City. In the early days she resided in Ogden, Idaho Falls, Pocatello, and Ontario, Oregon until age 8, then moved to Logan and subsequently to Ogden, where her father opened Herrod Furniture Co. on Kiesel Ave.
She graduated from Ogden High School and was a scholarship recipient and graduate of Weber College where she belonged to the Sharmea Social Unit. She earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Utah, with honors, in English and Modern Dance. She later obtained a Master's Degree from Utah State University in Education Administration and spent a good number of years teaching English, at South Ogden Junior High School. Former students have commented "She was a hard teacher, but was the best one I had". She advanced into administration in the Weber County School District, where she instructed teachers in English and writing projects.
She married Leonard E. Cashmore on May 28, 1954. They resided in Ogden and were active in the Ogden Junior Chamber of Commerce both local and state. They had two children, Kip Cashmore and Penni Cashmore Ward. They later divorced.
She had a dance studio for many years and taught a number of students dance, poise, and confidence. She choreographed many dance productions, including an epic production of "All Faces West" featuring a Metropolitan Opera Star.
She married Phil Allen on July 2, 1983 and they have spent the past 28 years devoted to each other and having the times of their lives.
She loved the Lord and was faithful in church service. She pursued Bible studies, especially the Precept on Precept Classes at Washington Heights Church. She was very devoted to Phil, her children and family and enjoyed them immensely.
She is preceded in death by her parents George and Dorothy Herrod, and former husband Leonard E. Cashmore. She is survived by her husband Phil Allen; children Kip Cashmore (wife Kit), Penni Ward (husband Kevin); brother Niles Herrod (Janet); and 13 grandchildren and 2 great- grandchildren who knew her as "Moosey".
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday January 5, 2012 at Washington Heights Church 1770 East 6200 South in South Ogden.
