IDA MAY PARKS CONRAD, 89, A LIFE LONG RESIDENT OF Bradford County, died peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at the Robert Packer Hospital. She was the devoted wife of Dr. George Ledyard Conrad, a well known retired Veterinarian in Rome. Ida May was born on February 6, 1914 in Windham Twp., near North Orwell, at the home of her parents, Ray Briton Parks and Mary Eliza Allen Parks. She was a graduate of the Rome High School class of 1933 and worked at Sylvania in Towanda during World War II making radioproximity fuses for the military. In addition she worked for a neighbor and on her parent's farm until she married Dr. Conrad in 1945. Their daughter, Mary Louise, was born on January 10, 1946. Ida May took great pride in her Bradford County roots and the values she learned while being raised on a farm. She had a deep respect for the land and enjoyed growing a large vegetable garden every summer. Her love of animals prepared her for the many years she assisted her husband in his Veterinary practice. Ida May also enjoyed researching and collecting family history and contributed to preserving the heritage of Bradford County. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a friend who will be truly missed. Her kind words and good deeds will be long remembered by those who knew her. Ida May is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dr. George Ledyard Conrad. A daughter and son-in-law; Mary Louise and Richard Tuhro of Webster, N.Y.; her grandsons; Matthew Conrad Tuhro and his wife Kimberly of Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan; Douglas Richard Tuhro of Webster, N.Y.; her sisters, Geneva and her husband Marc Terziev, of Syracuse, N.Y.; Nina Helm of Quarryville, Pa; sister-in-law; Isadore Phillips Parks; several nieces and nephews also survive. Ida May was predeceased by her brother George Edgar Parks on November 8, 1988 and a sister Marian Elizabeth Schwartz on March 25, 2003. Funeral services and a celebration of Ida May's life will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols, N.Y., with Rev. K. Ben Robinson, Pastor of the United Methodist Church, Rome, officiating. Interment will follow in the Rome Cemetery. A period of visitation and sharing memories will be held on Tuesday, October 28th from 2-4 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel and on Wednesday, October 29th from 10 am until the time of the service at 11 at the chapel.
