McNIEL, CHERYL GAY VOGEL passed away peacefully December 19, 2003 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Tyler on March 29, 1952, the daughter of Carl and Elaine Vogel, she is survived by her devoted husband, Jerry Wayne McNiel and her cherished daughter Jennifer Meghan McNiel of Garland and Austin; her parents; two brothers, Shannon and Kirk Vogel of Duncanville. She is preceded in death by a brother, Carl L. (Lee) Vogel, Jr., and a sister, Viki Lathleen Vogel. She is also survived by Jean and M.O. Bridges of Irving, Jane and Dick McElmurry of Tyler, A.C. and Ruth Mathews of Kilgore, Rita Rost of Arlington, Carol and Bob Mayer of Dallas, Gail and Davis Owens of Goldthwaite, Lynn and Kathy McNiel of Arlington and a large extended family, plus many wonderful supportive friends. Gay graduated from Kimball High School in 1970 and the University of North Texas with a degree In Elementary Education. She was recognized as an outstanding educator teaching in Red Oak, McKinney and fourteen years in Garland where she was named 1996-1997 Teacher of the Year at Ethridge Elementary. She loved to decorate and had a magic touch that was reflected in her antique business and her home where she had lived for 25 years. Gay was a devoted, caring wife and mother whose pride in her daughter and husband was unmatched. She had a large number of close and dear friends, many dating back to her childhood. She was a wife, a mother, a daughter, a mentor and a friend. She was dearly loved by all who knew her. Visitation Monday 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Williams Funeral Home in Garland Monday, December 22, 2003 at 3:30 p.m. Interment will be at Caradan Cemetery in Mills County, Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vitas Healthcare Corp. 8585 N.
