June 23, 1929 - Dec. 9, 2011 Known to all as "Cissy," Naomi Amick Brownfield was born on June 23, 1929, in Belleville, Texas, the fourth of Howard Elmo and Nadine Kathryn (Reisner) Campbell's five children. Cissy grew up in Kansas City in her beloved neighborhood "over Northeast," attending McCoy Elementary School, East High School, and continuing her education at Sarachon-Hooley School of Business. On January 1, 1950, she married Lon Gilbert Amick, Sr., a Kansas City writer and businessman, and soon found her true calling as the devoted mother of five children. She joyfully embraced family and friends, cooked up a storm, sewed, volunteered at Bryant School, led scouting events, restored garage sale treasures and was a grandmother to every child she met. It wasn't so much the things she did as the way she did them --- with childlike excitement, a light touch, effervescent laughter, her style and a spirit of outreach. Cissy's world fell apart in 1972 when Lon, then the development officer at William Jewell College, died in a car accident. Her simple faith in God saw her through and led her to a soul mate who also lost a beloved spouse. On April 14, 1974, she married Brigadier General Albert Ray Brownfield, Jr. They began a long and happy second chapter, filled with travels, family celebrations, shared grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a parade of feisty Boston Terriers, and retirement to Brownie's boyhood home in Brownfield, Texas. Following his death in 2009, Cissy remained near her children in Liberty, Missouri, where she died peacefully on December 9, 2011, surrounded by loved ones. Her affiliations included Job's Daughters, PEO, Needle Club of Lubbock, Maids and Matrons of Brownfield, First Baptist and Wornall Road Baptist in Kansas City and Second Baptist in Liberty. She is sadly missed by her five jewels: Lon Gilbery Amick, Jr., his wife Ruth Ann (Carpenter) Amick, their son Lon III and his wife, Ruth; Alice Grey Amick; Ann Amick Juffa, her husband Michael Richard Juffa, and their daughters Kate and Laura; Eugene Earle Amick, III, his wife, Stormy (Persons) Amick, their children Matthew and Morgan Amick Perry, her husband Michael Perry and their children Greyson and Amelia; and John Howard Amick, his wife Kim (Riley) Amick and their daughters Callie and Libby; and by her step-children Barbara, Ray, Bill, and Betsy and their families. Funeral services 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 14, at First Baptist Church 100 West Red Bridge Road, KCMO. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
