OBITUARY:
SUN CITY - Lloyd Edward Ballew, 75, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Menifee Valley Medical Center. Born Aug. 16, 1928, in Greenville, S.C., he lived in Sun City for the last year. He lived in Poway previously. He was a self-employed general contractor in home remodeling and repair business for 15 years. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years. He was a member of BPOE in Poway. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Lake Elsinore. He enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, camping, history and the Civil War. Mr. Ballew was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Elizabeth Wiggins Ballew. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mavis Ann Sjostrom Ballew of Sun City; sons Kent Ballew of San Jacinto and Shane Ballew of San Diego; daughters Nancy Ballew of Sun City and Julie Ballew of Escondido; brothers Bill Ballew of Victorville and Richard Ballew of Lakeland, Fla.; sisters Joyce Smith, Doris Norris, Mary Davis and Shirley Williams, all of Greer, S.C.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A graveside service with full military honors is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at Riverside National Cemetery, staging area No. 2. Miller-Jones Mortuary in Sun City is handling arrangements. (North County Times, December 14, 2003)
