Capt. Wm. H. Sterling, a well-known and highly esteemed citizen of Cape Charles, died in the hospital in Norfolk last Sunday after a long illness, for which he had been taken to that city with the hope of improvement. Capt. Sterling was a native of Maryland, but had lived in this county many years past and was one of the pioneer settlers of Cape Charles city, going there when the town was in its infancy. He was prominent in the affairs of his town and also in Masonic circles, and was at the time of his death a member of the Electoral Board of the county, a place he has filled for a number of years. Cape Charles loses a valued citizen in his death. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon and the interment in the Cape Charles cemetery with Masonic honors.
