He was the husband of Ann Crox Craig, and father of George, Henry A., W. David and Roger A. Craig. Siblings were Mrs. James McCulley (Clifton Craig), Mrs. David Chapman (Marlene Craig), Mrs. Steve Chesser (Mrs. Dave Hove (Jean Craig)), Mrs. Robert Taylor (Sue Craig), Winston and Samuel Craig. He was a stepson to Mrs. Samuel Robertson (Mrs. Samuel Craig (Freeda Hamby)) of Asheville, NC.
Cleaston was a native of Ducktown, Tennessee and was a member of the Masons, Rotary Club and YMCA there. During WW II he served as a staff sergeant for four years in the European and African theaters and was awarded a Bronze Star for service in a campaign in France.
In 1960 he had a teaching fellowship with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission in Oak Ridge. He held B. A. and B. S. degrees from the University of Tennessee and had done graduate work at Columbia University and was a life member of the National Education Association and also belonged to state and local teachers associations.
