He was born about 1801 in New York. He moved to Canada about 1830. Three children, boys, were born in New York. All the rest of the children, seven, were born in Canada. The family were Quakers and they left the USA for Canada to get away from relegious persecution. The three older boys went back to the USA, Tennessee, about 1855 to develop thier land.
