David was born in Augsburg, Germany, the son of Frank Edward and Ruth Mary Leiby Jones. He married Carolyn Sabin, on Jan. 30, 1980, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as Elders Quorum president, in the scouts, as a teacher, and as Ward Mission Leader. He served a full time mission in Hamburg, Germany. He also served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve. He completed POST training in Salt Lake City in March 2000, and worked as a Deputy for the Garfield County Sheriff's Department for the 16 months. He loved the outdoors, hiking, camping, sports, and loved to be out in the middle of no-where out-of-doors. He was well liked and was appreciated in his community. He passed away in the line of duty during a routine traffic stop, and is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Escalante; his children, Brian Andrew Jones of Ft. Campbell, KY, Paul Thomas (Jenn) Jones of West Jordan, Robert William Jones, Jacob Samuel Jones, and Sarah Kathleen Jones, all of Escalante; his parents, Ruth Mary Middleton of Kingsport, TN, and Frank Jones of Brigham City; brothers and sisters, Paula Lindsay of Hillsboro, OR, Carol Roberts of Salt Lake City, William E. (Nancy) Jones of St. Paul, MN, Merry E. (Jim) Reed of South Jordan, James M. (Linda) Jones of Pleasant Grove, and John P. (Jody) Jones of Brigham City; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Services were held at the Escalante Stake Center.
