Mary Elizabeth Reed was born at Aurora, Kendall, Illinois August 25 1860.
At the age of eleven years she moved with her parents to a homestead, three miles northwest of Cuba, where she resided until October 3, 1878, when she was united in marriage to Frank Eugene Canfield.
To this union ten children were born. One son, Walter, having died in infancy. she was united to the M.E. Church at the age of 12 yeas.
In 1879 she with her husband located on a homestead in Norton county, where they resided for two years, then they moved to Illinois for two years. They then returned to Republic county where she lived until her death at her home on December 9, 1923 at the age of 63 years, 3 months and 15 days.
She was stricken with pneumonia last February from which she never fully recovered. Other complications setting in which caused her death.
She was a faithful companion and a noble mother. She leaves her husband, F. E. Canfield of Munden, Kansas and nine children, Mrs J Boyd and Merle R Canfield of Gillette Wyo, Mrs R L Miller, Mrs Grover Price and Mrs Harry D Hunt, of Belleville, Kansas, Mrs Della Verley and Roy A Canfield, of Munden, Kansas, W F Canfield of Hubbell, Nebr, and Ardis, who is still at home.
There are 22 grandchildren living.
She also leaves one sister, Mrs.Emily Shaw of Evanston, Illinois, and three brothers Samuel and William Reed of Los Angeles, Calif, and Joseph Reed of Green Valley, Illinois.
All of her children being present at the funeral, except Mrs J A Boyd, of Wyo. The funeral was held at the Rose Creek Chapel Thursday afternoon and interment made in the Ida Cemetery.
