U.S. Congressman. Moving to Ohio with his parents in 1839, he graduated from Miami University, Ohio, studied law, was admitted to the bar, and commenced to practice law in Dayton, Ohio. Entering politics, he was a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives (1880 to 1883) and served in the Ohio State Senate (1886 to 1887). In 1887, he was elected as a Republican to the Fiftieth and Fifty-first Congresses, serving until 1891. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he continued to practice law until his death.
