DAVENPORT — Allyn John Adams, 87, of Davenport, passed away unexpectedly in his favorite chair, surrounded by his family on Friday, November 11, 2011, in Davenport.
Burial in Davenport Memorial Park.
Allyn was born August 8, 1924, in Swampscott, Mass., the son of Allyn J. and Melinda M (Moore) Adams, Sr. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II when he met his future wife, Dorris. They were married on February 24, 1946, in Davenport. Allyn worked as a parts manager for International Harvester for many years prior to his retirement. He was an avid Rock Hound — there were many a quarry his boots climbed into. He also was a Cub Scout, Webelos and Boy Scout leader. Allyn was an honest-to-goodness do-it-yourselfer who took great pride in his craftsmanship, which he passed on to his sons who, in turn, passed it on to their sons. He was a man strong in strength and wisdom and had a deep faith shared with his family and fellow members at Faith United Church of Christ.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Dorris, Davenport; sons, Gary (Martha) Adams and Stephen Adams, both of Davenport, and David (Joline) Adams, Blue Grass, Iowa; grandchildren, Mike, Chris, Christopher, Brian, John, Nick and Daniel Adams, and Jennifer Spies; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Orr, Urbandale, Iowa.
His parents and a daughter-in-law, Polly Adams, preceded him in death.
Allyn was greatly loved and will be missed, not only by his family, but also all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
