YORK Allen O. Baker, 96, died Sunday July 31, 2011, at ManorCareKingston Court Nursing Services. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with the Reverend Ron Oelrich officiating. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel prior to the service. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Mr. Baker was born September 27, 1914 in Wila, Pa., a son of the late Calvin Allen and Vida S. (Smith) Baker. He worked as district manager at Lee Tire and Rubber Co. and later as a salesman for Sears until his retirement in 1978. He graduated from Newport High School and went on to graduate from Thompson's Business school in Harrisburg. Mr. Baker was a member of Faith United Church of Christ. He was also a member of West York Gun Club, Victory AAA Club, Keystone Record Club, and Devers Lions Club. He was an avid record and sheet music collector. Mr. Baker is survived by two sons, Barry A. Baker and wife, Diane of York and Michael O. Baker and wife, Gail of York; one daughter, Diane E. Rodan and husband Thomas of Delaware; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters, and long time companion Jean Carmen. In memory of Mr. Baker, memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Church of Christ, 509 Pacific Ave., York, PA 17404.
