Officer Philip H. Chacón, age 36, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 1980.
Philip is survived by his wife, Marjorie Chacón of the family home, one daughter, Denise Chacón, one son, Robert Chacón, one foster son, Jeff McQuerry of the family home, his mother, Tomasita Chacón of Albuquerque, his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Montoya of Wagon Mound, NM, three brothers, Joe O. Chacón, Edward L. Chacón and Theodore A. Chacón, all of Albuquerque.
Philip was a member of the San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church. Philip was a patrolman with the Albuquerque Police Department for eight years, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, organized the Victim Assistant Program, was on the Sickle Cell Council, organized a walk-a-thon for Mulitple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy and Sickle Cell Anemia. Philip was active in senior citizens groups and was a member of Ballut Ayad Shrine Bag Pipe Band. Philip received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Mexico, taught school for the University of Albuquerque, was president of the P.T.A. at Old Town School and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 13.
Funeral services are being planned for Sunday night and Monday, time and place to be announced by Strong-Thorne, 1100 Coal SE. The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Sickle Cell Council of NM, 510 Slate NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102 or the United Cerebral Palsy Fund, 201 San Pedro NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108, in his memory.
