found an article in The Washington Times newspaper dated 28 July 1916 on page 9, NEWSPAPER MAN BECOMES BENEDICT - Ernst A. Knorr Jr, and Miss Elsa A. Fischer Married. Friends of Ernst A. Knorr Jr, a well known Washington newspaper man received cards today announcing his marriage in Philadelphia on July 21 to Miss Elsa Aurelie Fischer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Frederick Fischer of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Knorr denied today that is was an elopement. They had planned to be married in the fall, but Mr. Knorr discovered last week that he could get a few days of vacation that he had not expected, and they decided to slip off to Philadelphia and be married. Mr. and Mrs. Knorr spent a few days at Atlantic City, returning to Washington in the middle of the week.
NOTE: Ernst and Elsa divorced.
Elsa was a "Gray Lady" for the Red Cross, and volunteered a lot of hours.Elsa Knorr served in the US Navy Reserve and she is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
Obituary: KNORR, ELSA A. On Satuday, September 22, 1962, at McGuire Veteran's Hospital, Richmond, Virginia, Elsa A. Knorr of 2121 Virginia Avenue, N.W. She is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Clarence T. Reinberger of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Michael M. McNamee, Mrs. Charles R. Thompson, and Mrs. Charles G. Jackson of Washington, D.C., and a brother, William C. Fischer of St. Petersburg, Florida. Friends may call at the Birch Funeral Home, 3034 M. Street N.W. after 2 p.m. Monday. Services will be held at Fort Myer Chapel on Wednesday, September 26, at 1 p.m. Interment Arlington National Cemetery.
