Prominent Rock County Man Dies
George Crosby, 84,Farmer, Legislator and Township Officer, Died
George H. Crosby, 84, prominent in county affairs and said to be the oldest continuous resident in Rock county, died at his farm home on the State Line road about 3 miles, east of Belolt, at' 5' o'clock Saturday afternoon.
The funeral will be held from the home. At 2:30 Tuesday afternoon with burial in the Beloit cemetery. Mr. Crosby -was a member of the County board for 13 years, served as
chairman of the town board of Turtle for almost that length of time, and was active in Republican circles in the state, having been elected to the state legislature for the 1874-1875 term.

Mr. Crosby was born in Colebrook, N. H., Dec. 9, • 1836. His family came west the next year locating in Rock county in August, 1837. George Crosby's parents. Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas Crosby, were among the first white settlers in this part of the country. At the time of their arrival there were only two white families in Belolt. There were no
fences, no roads: In 1839 the Crosbys located on the 200 acre farm in Turtle township where the family home is still maintained. Mr. Crosby was the oldest of three
children, one brother, Charles Crosby, having died in California several years ago, and one sister. Miss
Cornelia Crosby, having died at the farm hone March 28 this year, just two months previous to the death
of her brother Georgo Crosby.

George Crosby was married to Adelaide Hammond. Jan. 26, 1865. Her death occurred in 1914. Two children were born to this union, one son Glenn whose death occurred in 1888, and one daughter, Mrs. Emma Thomas, who with her husband and
two children. Adelaide and Robert, have been living at the farm home during the illness and death of her Aunt and father.
