|Killen Cemetery versus Killen City Cemetery|
"Wendy, I just, today looked at the Killen Cemetery sign on findagrave.com and saw that
you had put up that photo and it clearly states the name as Killen Cemetery and not
Killen City Cemetery. I used to tell all that would listen, that this was not
"Killen City Cemetery" and would tell them that I had many relatives buried there and
it was the Killen Cemetery, but I finally gave up.
My sister said, "Why do you care?", and I would reply, "because it is not
"Killen City Cemetery" and it does matter to any one that is a genealogist, whether a beginner or professional!" I never dreamed that I would ever see this error corrected. Wendy to the rescue!!!!"

"I spoke with the local genealogist at the Florence, Alabama Library and he said the error was made by a Bob Tolbert, who was doing the listing of graves. Mr. Tolbert has done
much good work for our area, & the girl who listed all the graves in the Killen Cemetery told me that she would go and see what the sign said and would get back with me, but I did not hear from her.
To me, since the sign is correct, and all of us who have relatives buried there know what is correct, then it is okay.
All the obits that I have, say Killen Cemetery
and folks still have family being buried there are saying Killen Cemetery,
so it is fine with me.
It is kind of like folks calling the Blue Water Cemetery in Lauderdale, Alabama the Mitchell Town Cemetery.
When I first started researching our family, I was at the Lauderdale County Library and I was asking for info on the "Mitchell Town Cemetery",
when a gentleman that was sitting there, stated that 'this wasn't Mitchell Town Cemetery, but was the Blue Water Cemetery that was located in the Mitchell Town community and that
cemetery is full of my immediate relatives!'
You would have thought that I would know the correct name! Errors do occur." Faye
