Civil War Medal of Honor recipient. He entered the Union Army at Martinton, Iroquois County, Illinois and served as a Corporal in Company B, 113th Illinois Infantry. As a member of the Volunteer Storming Party, on May 22, 1863 at the Battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi, he showed gallantry in the charge and assault against the Confederate garrison.
