Services for Edward W. Angerer, 72, Rock Island, are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, Muscatine. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, the American Heart Association, WVIK Radio or a favorite charity.
Mr. Angerer died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Mr. Angerer was born June 24, 1927, in Muscatine, the son of Leo E. and Emma Goetzman Angerer. He graduated from the former St. Ambrose Academy, attended St. Ambrose College, and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in architecture.
Mr. Angerer began his career as an architect in 1952 when he joined the former Swanson and Maiwald, Architects and Engineers, Moline. His own independent practice was established in 1958 in Rock Island. He was responsible for several large projects during his career, including St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center's renovation. Some of Mr. Angerer's projects that won awards include Blackhawk State Bank, Milan, A.D. Huesing Bottling Plant, Rock Island, and First Baptist Church, Moline.
He has also, among many other projects, designed a Pepsi-Cola bottling plant in Decatur, the Rock Island Library-30/31 Branch, Miner Consulting Engineers Office Building, the Star Cres Building remodeling, and Christian Friendliness Youth Center.
He was a member of the American Institute of Architects, served on its International Design Committee for several years, and had served as the president of its Western Illinois Chapter. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Ed was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Rock Island, Rock Island Downtown 2000 Steering Committee and Rock Island Preservation Committee, and a past president of the Rock Island Beautification Commission.
Survivors include his mother, Emma Angerer, Rock Island; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Therese and James Vernon, Sun Lakes, Ariz., Agnes and Guy De Shong, Phoenix, Ariz., and Carol and James R. Loula, Moline; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Mary Angerer, Baltimore, Md., and Bernard and Marilyn Angerer, Phoenix; and 20 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
