The name of August's father as reported by his widow on his death certificate can possibly be read as either Mathew or Marten.

His daughter Clara's death certificate reports that he was born in Warren Co., MO.

He married 10 Feb 1886 to Elizabeth Gross. This was probably in Franklin county, as Elizabeth was born in Washington, Franklin Co., MO.

From his wife's obituary:
"Mr. and Mrs. Erbes moved into the Cove neighborhood Feb 16, 1900. They were members of the older pioneer citizens which helped to build the community upon a solid foundation."
