U.S. Senator. After graduating from the University of Illinois, in 1917 and served in the US Army as a Captain during the World War I. After the war, he was successful in several business venues and was chairman Kansas State Highway Commission, (1933-37). In 1949, he was appointed as a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Clyde M. Reed, serving until 1950. After his term, he resumed his business interests and lived in retirement until his death at age 91.
