Her parents were Jonathan & Jane (Decker) Moody, according to her death certificate. The death certificate for her daughter Ida Evaline (Decker) Shartle lists Sarah's middle name as "Ella." It has her born in Charleston, PA. The informant was a Robert L. P-(illegible signature). The death certificate for Ida can be viewed at Familysearch.org.

Sarah Moody & George Decker were married 9 April 1861 in New Florence, PA.

By 1870 she and George had left PA with their children. They were in the 1870 Federal census for Milton Twp., Jackson Co., OH, then in the 1880 Federal census for Saltlick Twp., Perry Co., OH. Their daughter Ida Evaline Decker has a christening record for 4 Nov. 1876 in Handed, Vinton Co., OH. They lived in Hocking Co., OH for awhile, appearing in the 1900 Federal census for Gore, OH. In the 1910 Federal census, they were in Dayton, Montgomery Co., OH with daughter Ida E. Johnson and grandson Clarence Arthur.

Children:

James Lewis "Lew" Decker b. 1857 PA. Lew died in 1901 Hocking Co., OH. He married Millie Lanning, dau. of Joseph & Margaret (Skinner) Lanning.

John W. Decker b. March 1, 1862, according to George's
Civil War pension papers. John was b. in PA, then d. 1949 in Montgomery Co., OH. He might have been b. in Pittsburgh, since it says that on his death certificate, but that certificate also gave his birth date as 1860 and listed his father as George W. Decker. The informant may have been a clerk at the county home where he had been living.

Mary Decker b. July 8, 1866, according to George's Civil War pension paper. According to Familysearch.org, Mary May Decker & Monroe Walters had a son Delford Pearl Walters on 6 March 1887 in Gore, Hocking Co., OH. Pearley Walters was 13 and living with his Decker grandparents in the 1900 Gore, Hocking Co., OH census. She signed Sarah's 1914 death certificate as Mary Troy. Her brother John was living with a widowed "May Cain" about Mary's age in the 1930 Federal census for Dayton, OH. According to Sally Messenger, who's on Facebook, Mary was m. to a Mr. Troy, then a Cain and had a son Tommy Cain.

Civil War pension papers. He went by his middle name Leander as a child. He was in both the 1870 and 1880 census records for his parents, then married Celia Watson in 1893 Hocking Co., OH.

Malinda J. Decker b. Sept. 8, 1869,

Sally Messenger. The pension papers indicate that she died by 1915.
