Obituary, The Columbia Daily Tribune, January 29, 2008:

M. Elaine Donovan Langford, 90, of Columbia passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2008, in Columbia.

A memorial service was held Monday, Jan. 28, at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Columbia. Inurnment will be at St. John's Cathedral All Souls Walk in Denver at a later date.

Mrs. Langford, the daughter of John T. and Rosella Donovan was born June 16, 1917, in Denver.

She attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated from the University of Denver in 1939. She taught in the Denver and Aurora, Colo., schools districts.

While in college she met Harold B. Langford, whom she married June 9, 1940. Theirs was a love story that would span 52 years and produce two daughters.

The couple moved to Columbia in 1991. They shared a common interest in square and ballroom dancing as well as traveling, especially to Alaska.

Elaine, a dedicated homemaker, also was known for her generous volunteer work that included a number of different ministries in the Episcopal Church, a "pink lady" at Denver's St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary and the charitable work of her sorority, Delta Zeta.

A passionate reader she was particularly fond of the Bard, "Willie" as she referred to Shakespeare. Also the avid bridge player, she was always willing to make a fourth.

Elaine leaves a legacy of love for her family and friends. And in truly living her faith, she taught the lessons of humility, caring and compassion and beautifully touched all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws, Sandra and John M. Gordon of Columbia and Charlotte and Dennis Calhoun of Anchorage, Alaska; her brother, Timothy H. Donovan of Columbia; granddaughter and her husband Laura and Daniel Reiss and their three children of Columbia; grandson and his wife John and Julie Gordon of Columbia; grandsons Matthew, Christopher and Stephen Calhoun of Anchorage; and niece and nephews Kathy and Ed Hanson of Columbia and John and Beth Donovan of Leavenworth, Kan.

Mrs. Langford was preceded in death by her husband.

In honoring her wishes, memorials can be made to the Salvation Army of Columbia.

Arrangements are under the care of Parker Funeral Service.
