US Congressman, US Senator. During World War I, he served in the U.S. Army, (1918-19). After the war, he graduated from Westminster Law School, was admitted to the bar and practiced law in Denver, Colorado. He was an assistant United States district attorney, (1933-34), District Attorney of Denver, (1937-41) and regional attorney for the Office of Price Administration, (1942-1943). During World War II, he served as a Major in the U.S. Army, (1943-45). After the war, he was elected as a Democrat to the Eightieth and Eighty-first Congresses, serving (1947-51). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he served as a special assistant to President Harry Truman, (1951-52). In 1956, he was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate, serving until 1963. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he lived in retirement until his death at age 82.
