"In younger days Reuben worked in lumber woods, sawmills and rafting on the river until 1856, the he farmed till 1896. He lived with his son, Grant till 1915 then with his daughter Nellie until his death. Never sick a day in his life until February 22, 1916. His sickness last two weeks, his eyesight was good and he wrote a letter to his sister-in-law one week before his illness without aid of glasses. Funeral services were held Friday at 1pm at the Antioch Church with Rev. Baker of M.E. church of Linden, Waterloo, Iowa officioting. Burial was at Antioch Cemetery, east of Clarksville, Butler County, Iowa."
