He was born February 24, 1941, at St. Lukes Hospital in Fergus Falls, the son of Henry and Esther (Johnson) Johnson. In 1943 he moved with his family from Elbow Lake to the Fargo Moorhead area where he attended school. After graduating from Oak Grove Lutheran High School in 1959, he attended Concordia College in Moorhead.
On March 10, 1962. he married Jane Elizabeth Janke in Ulen. They made their home in Fargo. North Dakota where he worked at Oak Grove High School as a custodian and later at Dakota Electric Supply Company in Fargo for five years. In 1968 he began working at the Fargo Post Office as a Postal Carrier. In 1978 he transferred to the Fergus Falls Post Office and was employed as a Postal Clerk until his retirement after over thirty years of dedicated service with the United States Postal Service.
On June 27, 1998, he married Helen Kjos at the Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. They made their home in Fergus Falls where he lived up until his death.
Harold was a member of Calvary Free Lutheran Church, where he was a Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Leader, Deacon, and Treasurer.
Preceding him in death were his mother, who died in 1961; his father, who died in 1976. and an infant grandson, Mark Allen Johnson, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Fergus Falls; a son, Mark (Jodi) of Apple Valley; three daughters, Suzanne (Mike) Conrad, Sheila (Mark) Bergerud and Sandy (Jeff) Schultz all of Fergus Falls; nine grandchildren; three step daughters, Renee (Kevin) Kowalski, Michele Kjos and Julie Hunter all of Fergus Falls; six step grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Susan) Johnson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Monday with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Free Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls
