Herschel Q. Burks was born May 10, 1919 in Sparkman, Arkansas to Edmond and Lona (Bozeman) Burks. He went to be with his Savior on August 9, 2003 in Oklahoma City at the age of eighty-four.

Herschel served his country in the U.S. Army and was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He served as a Deacon and then Elder at University Place Christian Church during the 1950's and early 1960's. He was a Deacon at Metropolitan Baptist Church for 30 yrs. and head usher for 20 yrs. Herschel routinely visited and served communion to the elderly and those with disabilities in their homes, hospitals and nursing homes for 40 yrs.

He was on the founding Board of Directors of the OKC Rescue Mission and continued to serve on that board for 35 yrs. He served 20 yrs. as Vice-Chairman of the Christian Business Men's Committee (CBMC). Herschel was employed as Sales Manager for United Auto Supply, Inc./Atlantic- Pacific Automotive for a total of 52 years, retiring in 1993.

Herschel was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Helen Thomas; brothers, Harold Burks and Ben Hofstetter; his first wife, Rose Way Burks and second wife, Thelma Summers Burks. His survivors are his wife, Annelies; children, Ronald H. Burks of Sarasota, FL; Sherilyn R. Tower and husband, Phil of Phoenix, AZ; Suzanne M. Burks of Stillwater, OK; John D. Clymer and wife, Patsy and Ronald K. and wife, Betty both of OKC.
