Irene M. Allen, 89, of North Berwick, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009.

She was born on July 30, 1920 in Eliot, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Tondreault) Morin. She was raised and educated in Eliot, and was a 1940 graduate of Gorham State Teacher's College.

Irene was an elementary and special education teacher as well as a "much loved" librarian. Her career spanned more than 50 years in the local community and throughout greater York County.

Irene was an original co-founder of Camp Waban, and she was also a Trustee of the D.A. Hurd Library in North Berwick.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Deborah Bragdon of North Berwick; daughter-in-law, Carol Allen of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; grandson, Army Capt. Benjamin Bragdon of Ft. Benning, Ga.; great-granddaughter, Shilynne Miller of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; and sister, Lena Molleur-Bernard of Eliot. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Irene was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd E. Allen in 1961. Her sons, Jon and Christopher Allen; and her granddaughter, Stephanie Allen, also predeceased her.

There are no calling hours. All are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of The Angels Parish, Our Lady of Peace Church, 25 Saw Mill Hill, Berwick. Burial will follow in New Town Cemetery in Rollinsford, N.H.
