She was born February 10, 1927 in Indiana, PA, and most recently lived in Gettysburg. Dorothy was the daughter of the late Rev. Samuel S. and Gracia (Woodward) Shaulis.
Dorothy was a graduate of Evan City High School, and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education at Capital University, Columbus, Ohio.
She was a music teacher in the Geneva Area City Schools in Ohio.
Dorothy married her husband, the Rev. Robert (Bob) H. Sternat on September 23, 1952. They were the first couple to be married at Camp Lutherlyn, Prospect, and had their 59th wedding anniversary this year. Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother who actively supported her husband's ministries in the churches he served. She was choir director in many of his parishes and filled the churches with beautiful music throughout the years.
She was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Biglerville. Dorothy enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing the piano, singing, Uno with the family, swimming, and travel. Dorothy was an avid fan of Penn State football and the Blue Band. She liked cats, flowers, the ocean, and lighthouses. Most of all, Dorothy cherished time with family and her five grandchildren affectionately called her "Grammy".
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Bob; son, Donald R. Sternat and wife Jill and their children Allison, Kaitlyn, and Tyler of Birdsboro; son, Mark H. Sternat and wife Karen and their children Mark C. and Meghan of Northampton; sister, Betty Sue Lehew and husband, Jack of Butler; sister-in-law, Janet Shaulis Stueckrath, Broomfield, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
Her brother, Samuel A. Shaulis, predeceased her.
Interment will be at the Center View Cemetery in Biglerville.
