Full name: John Arthur Alexander. John's parents were William Dawson "W. D." Alexander and Irene Jackson. He had one sister and five brothers. His father had the first automobile (Locomobile) in Atlanta, GA!!! At that time, his family lived on West End Avenue - Corner of Ashby. John was a co-owner of Alexander-Seewald Company (pioneer automobile jobbers, exclusively wholesale) located at 291 Peachtree Street. In 1925, all three warehouses moved to 102 West Peachtree Street. Also in 1925, the Jacksonville, FL branch opened.

On 01 Jul 1927, he married Gertrude (Schenck) Mooney in Jacksonville, Duval Co., FL. This was Gertrude's 2nd marriage. He never had children of his own, but he was a loving step-father to my mother Gertrude (Mooney) Drew and a wonderful step-grandfather to me, my sister, and brother. We called him "Daddy John".

He was a member of the Session of Rock Springs Presbyterian Church, Atlanta.

Photography was his hobby to the point that he even had a darkroom in the basement while living at 1733 Pelham Road (Morningside neighborhood), Atlanta. As a result, our family has a treasure trove of photographs. John and Gertrude also later lived at 636 Rockmont Drive in the same neighborhood. He died in his sleep in his bed at this home.
