28 Mar 1857 2 sisters got on a Mormon ship in liverpool called the George washington destination America. Mary Price Howells had a son who was 6 years old in 1857 Herbert Erastus Howells. Mary left her son in the care of her parents back in munslow, shropsrire England. Her Husband to be and father of her son had left in 1854 to prepare a place for them in Utah. The other Sister lied about her name and age. she said her name was caroline Howells age 20, but I know it was really Margaret price Howells age 17. Margaret was engaged to a man back in England who lived close to her family in munslow, his name was Will Humphries. I suspect she lied about her name and age because she was getting away from a would be bad relationship. Or maybe her age being only 17 she was not old enough for the mormons to transport her to America. Below Mary Howells name on the ships roster appears caroline " with the " meaning howells age 20. The real caroline Howells who was 20 in 1857 would travel to america 4 years later aboard the monarch of the sea along with others in the family. and we do know that our Margaret Price Howells was in SLC by May 10, 1860 when she gave birth to her son Nelson Thompson Jr.
The george washington docked in Boston Harbor on April 20th 1857, though they did not disembark until the 23rd.The girls were in iowa city by May 1957 and on May 22 they left pushing and pulling handcarts that weighed 500 pounds. The straps left scars on Mary that lasted the rest of her life. they arrived at Salt lake City on September 12th, Mary married her sweetheart John Adams just 2 days later on September 14, 1857.
Margaret met and married Nelson Thompson and they had their first baby in 1860 in Utah. Sadly when she had her 2nd baby still inside of her her husband was killed and scalped by indians. Margaret then met Donald McArthur who offered to marry her, Margaret agreed but not until she had delivered her dead husbands child. Donald and Margaret had 14 children together one of which is my great grandmother Pauline sarah McArthur. Margarets parents are Mary Price sr,born April 16, 1800 and Job Howells born May 19, 1790. all of the childrens middle names were price
