George S. Whittemore is believed to be the same George S. Whittemore, son of Augustus & Mary (Sears) Whittemore, that is with them in Dover, Piscataquis, ME in the 1870 census. He moved to Princeton, Mille Lacs, MN where he married Elizabeth E. "Lizzie" Jones 11 Jun 1888. They had two children, Ernest Lynn b. 1889 & Arthur Lee b. 1894. They divorced in Jul 1895. George went to Alaska before 1900 with a couple of other local Princeton men. He was still living there in the 1920 & 1930 censuses, working as a miner.

WHITTEMORE GOES TO REST

George Whittemore, aged 72 years, died in St. Joseph's hospital at 8 o'clock last night from heart trouble. He had been a patient there since March 5.

Mr. Whittemore, was an old-timer of this camp. He worked in the mines during the days of large individual operations and was employed by Henry Wagner for years.

The heart trouble manifested itself over a decade ago and Mr. Whittemore retired. He has been living in town since then.

He celebrated his 72nd birthday January 5. Mr. Whittemore was a widower. He is survived by two sons living Outside. He was born in Dover, Maine, and was of English descent.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

WHITTEMORE RITES TO BE HELD MONDAY AFTERNOON

Funeral services for George Whittemore will be held at the Ross chapel Monday at 2 p.m. under auspices of Tanana Lodge No. 162, F. & A. M.

Mr. Whittemore was a member of Perfection Lodge No. 99 at Princeton, Minnesota.
