Faylin Letcher Cairns

Faylin (Faye) Letcher Cairns, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, 72, of Fairview, Pa., passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2011, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Somerset, Pa., February 25, 1939, daughter of the late James and Helena Kaufman Letcher.

Faye graduated from Academy High School in 1957 and joined the United States Air Force in September of that year.

Following her honorable discharge in 1959, she returned to Erie, where she owned and operated Faylin's Dance Studio for several years. Later, she was a librarian at Mercyhurst Prep High School and St. Luke School for many years, retiring in 1995. Faye was an avid golfer for almost 40 years and a past member of Lawrence Park Golf Club. In addition, she enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, swimming, and card-playing with her many friends, especially Lorna, Elaine, and Marilyn.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, John and Patrick, and a brother, James "Red" Letcher of Baltimore, Md.

She is survived by her husband, Gerard N. Cairns; a daughter, Kimberly A. Cairns; a grandson, James McCormick; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th and Liberty St., on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at a time and place to be announced.

Private burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
