KNIGHTDALE, N.C. - Virginia N. Washington Davis, 96, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2004 at Wellington Nursing Center in Knightdale, formerly of Bluefield.

Born in Bluefield to the late James and Annie Calloway Washington. Mrs. Davis moved to North Carolina with her goddaughter, Sevealyn Smith and family due to her declining health.

Mrs. Davis attended the Mercer County Public Schools and received her Bachelors Degree in home economics from West Virginia State College at Institute. She was a retired schoolteacher having taught in the public schools of North Carolina and Mercer County. She was a lifelong member of John Stewart United Methodist Church and a life member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Mrs. Davis was proceeded in death by her husband, Abner Davis, a sister and two brothers.

Numerous nieces and nephews in the Washington and Davis families, godchildren and friends, survive her.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, 11 a.m. from the G.H. Sinkford Memorial Chapel of Richardson Funeral Home, Bluefield, with the Rev. Eugene Nesbitt officiating. Entombment will follow at the Restlawn Memorial Garden on Littlesburg Road.

Friends may call one hour prior to service.
