Bernadette died Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the age of eighty-two.
She is survived by her five children, Kathleen Keane of Charlotte, North Carolina; Therese Norlander of Pleasanton, California; Edmond M. Keane of Los Gatos, California; Lorette Cohen of Campbell, California; Brian J Keane of Covington, Washington; sixteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many loving friends. Bernadette is preceded in death by her beloved husband of forty-one years, Edmond F. Keane.
Bernadette was born October 20, 1928 in New Britain, Connecticut to Antonio Joseph Gagnon and Loretta Bernadette (Kelly) Gagnon. The family moved from Connecticut to San Diego, California in 1932 and then on to West Los Angeles. She attended University High School, and then graduated from University of California Los Angeles in 1951. She taught middle school in the Los Angeles Unified School District for twenty-eight years before retiring in 1988.
After retirement, Bernadette was active in her community. She was a volunteer with Saint Mary's Hospital Guild and a docent at Rancho Los Alamitos. She also spent many years dedicated to researching her family's genealogy.
More recently, Bernadette moved to Pleasanton, California and then San Jose, California to be close to her children and grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Long Beach at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2011.
