Graveside services for Mrs. Avant 11 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2011, at the Lee Cemetery in Winnsboro, Texas, under the direction of Welch Funeral Home.
Mrs. Avant was born September 11, 1936, in Winnsboro, to Taft and Linnie Tinney.
Following in her parents' footsteps as an educator, Nyla received her teaching certificate from East Texas State College in 1958. She completed her masters in 1962. She taught in Seagoville for two years and then moved to Longview, where she continued to teach for another 43 years.
The family requests memorials be made to Beacon Hospice, P.O. Box 5908, Longview, TX 75608; or to Texas Oncology, 1300 N. 4th Street, Longview, TX 75601.
