Nancy M. Scurlock was born in North Carolina circa 1804. Her parentage is presently unknown. On November 1, 1824 Nancy married as his second wife Benjamin Capps (1780/90-1832) in Williamson Co., TN. Capps was also a native of North Carolina but was living in Davidson Co., near Nashville. The couple had two sons: James Allen (b. 1825) and Joseph Horton (b. ca. 1832), both born in Nashville. Sometime after the death of her husband in 1832, Nancy and her sons moved into the Nashville household of John Eakin (1850, 1860 Federal Census). Later, Nancy apparently lived for a time with the family of her son, James Allen Capps, a riverboat captain in Washington, St. Landry Parish, LA. She died at about age 67 and was buried on October 3, 1870.
