LeRoy Martin Satrom, 85, of Morris Road, Kent, died Wednesday, September 8, 2004, at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna. He was born February 4, 1919 in Galesburg, North Dakota to Martin L. and Rose (Jondahl) Satrom.
He was graduated from high school in Colgate, North Dakota and was an U.S. Army veteran of the European Theater (1943-1946). He graduated from Case Institute of Technology with a Degree in Civil Engineering in 1947.
His career included Portage County Deputy Engineer (1947-1952); Design and Project Engineer for Havens & Emerson Consulting Engineers (1952-1956); Kent City Engineer (1956-1960) Consulting Engineer with offices in Kent, specializing in municipal, sanitary and Highway engineering (1960-1970); and four terms as Portage County Engineer (1973-1988). He was also President of the County Engineers Association in 1983. He also held positions as Kent City Service Director (1959-1960); Kent City Councilman (1964-1965); and Mayor of the City of Kent (1970-1972).
He was preceded in death by his wives, Grace (May 11, 1974) and Arlye (March 31, 1987); and by his parents; sisters, Elene Langdahl, Jundith Langdahl, Alice Bruil, and Florence Haugan; and brother, Donald Satrom. Calling hours will be held 6-8 P.M. Monday at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory in Kent. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at United Church of Christ of Kent with Dr. Paul Ashby and Rev. Brian Frederick-Gray officiating. Private burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Beachwood.
